How much is the excess and what does it cover?

Damage Excess Explained

Bubblegum Cars — Magnetic Island

We want everything to be clear before you book.

Here’s exactly how our $3,750 Damage Excess works — in plain English.

What is the Damage Excess?

The Damage Excess is $3,750.

This is the maximum amount you may be required to pay if the vehicle is damaged, involved in an accident, stolen, or requires repair during your rental.

When is the Excess Charged?

If there is any accident, damage, or theft, we will immediately charge $3,750 to your nominated payment method.

This is a temporary security charge, not necessarily the final cost.

What Happens After Repairs?

Once repair costs are confirmed:

• If total costs are less than $3,750, the remaining balance is refunded

• If total costs reach $3,750 or more, no further charge applies (unless required by law)

Repair timelines can vary due to parts availability and insurer processes.

What Does the Excess Cover?

The Excess may be used to cover:

• Vehicle repairs or replacement

• Towing and vehicle recovery

• Loss of rental income while the vehicle is unavailable

• Third-party property damage

• Administrative and assessment costs

Does Fault Matter?

The Excess applies regardless of fault, unless:

• Another party is entirely at fault and

• Their insurer accepts liability in writing

Important: When You May Be Fully Liable

You may be responsible for all costs (not limited to the Excess) if:

• An unauthorised driver was driving

• The driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs

• The vehicle was driven off-road, on beaches, or in restricted areas, such as but not limited to, Westpoint Road and Radical Bay Road

• Damage or accidents were not reported immediately

• The vehicle was driven after damage without approval

Drivers Under 25

We proudly rent to drivers aged 18–24.

The full $3,750 Excess applies, with no reductions based on age or driving experience.

Only drivers approved and listed on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle.

What To Do If Something Happens

If there is any accident or damage:

1. Stop driving safely

2. Contact Bubblegum Cars immediately

3. Do not admit fault or negotiate with anyone

4. Report to police where required

Failure to follow these steps may result in full liability.
